picking a bed.

since grant and i got married in 2007, most of our furniture has been either hand-me-downs or cheap apartmentesque furniture from target. when we moved into the first home we actually own (our current home), we both knew we wanted to get a nice set of furniture for our master bedroom. so, once we got settled in, we began the discussion of what kind of bed we wanted.

wood? upholstered? four post? platform? white? cherry? dark?
so many questions.

we quickly agreed that we wanted an upholstered bed with some sort of tufting and/or nailhead design. since our bedroom walls are medium to dark, i knew i wanted something cream or beige color. although we plan to flip this house next winter, i have lots of bedroom ideas that this bed will work with even if we don't have dark walls.

we originally agreed on this bed that we found on wayfair and then again on amazon. we both love the straight lines of it and the price is killer, too. we do still really, really like it, BUT... i had major anxiety about ordering a bed online. the fabric is velvet, so i wasn't sure if i'd like that or not. then there's the whole 'how do i return this thing if i hate it?' ordeal. it just seemed too risky to me.

so... we i decided it was a better decision to find a bed from an actual store that we could see and feel the fabric. luckily, it didn't take long and i found a bed i LOVE! the picture isn't near as fancy as the one above, but i am in love with this bed for real. it's from z gallerie fyi!

now, grant has said he wants new bedding and the whole nine yards. i see lots of trips to indianapolis' home goods in my future... :)

new pieces for new house.

since we moved into our house (which, by the way, is about 600 sq ft smaller than our last place), we have purchased some new furniture accents. i have been totally lovin what target has these days and target.com is my go-to. here are a few things we snagged off their website and they just so happened to be on clearance, too! woo hoo!

this desk has been a lifesaver! since we are self-employed, desks are a necessity! we have two full size desks in storage that we LOVE, but our house just doesn't allow for full size desks. we were not willing to give up having at least one workspace, though, so this was the perf solution! $50 and about 2 hours to put it together. love the storage up top and the main desk part is plenty big for what we need!
we also snagged this fab brown ottoman. love the tufted detail on top, the nailhead on the bottom and the fab storage. everything that i buy these days seem to have at least one of those 3! this ottoman isn't too big, but it sits in front of our loveseat and it's perfect. we have laminate floors in the main living area and a big floor rug in the living room. it was important to me to not buy an oversized ottoman/ coffee table so that holden's carpet play space is maximized! mission accomplished!

i bought this mirror last week after having my eye on it for maybe a month or so. i have about 3 different options of where i want to hang it, but haven't gotten around to it!

we've bought several other things (lamps, mirrors, etc), but since they were on clearance, i can't find them on the website anymore!

is target inspiring you these days, too? loving their colors and textures lately!! xoxo

imperfectly perfect.

our new house has the most perfect morning light. our house is facing the north, so the kitchen and living room get all of that glorious light. i hadn't noticed until today because indiana is a little gloom & doom. we moved in a week ago tomorrow and haven't had a sunny day here yet. insane.

as a working lady with no kiddos, sunday mornings used to be only other day besides saturday that i got to sleep in. i would wake up, grab some coffee, make breakfast and chill until it was time for church. that is, if i got up with extra time to chill. sometimes, i would sleep til the last possible second and then head out for church and grab dunkin on the way. life was so simple.

as i sit here half asleep, since holden decided he wanted to have a party at midnight and then again at 5:30, i realize how my life truly is not my own. i love it. but it is so not my own.

so, since we have been up so early (i'm blaming this on teeth, btw. i see about 5 new ones popping through.), we have had breakfast, watched pioneer woman, watched sprout (my new fav for h), holden got a bath and i took a shower. and it's not even 10. i haven't had coffee yet... which is next on my to-do list.

motherhood changes things, though. it's like even though i would've appreciated a couple extra hours of sleep or for no breakdown when he wanted raspberries not blueberries... it's imperfectly perfect and i'm ok with that.

house post 1 of 94378.

when my hub, grant, and i first decided we were moving to indiana after living in florida for 7 years, we thought we would find a house fairly quick. we moved into grant's parents spacious house with our 6 week old bundle of joy and settled in. after being in indiana for about 2-3 months, i was ready to start looking. i had an idea what side of town i wanted to be on, general idea of the type of house i wanted (split level, ranch, etc) and i thought the process would take a few weeks. oh, how ignorant i was.

after 6 (or maybe 7... i lost count) rejected offers, we FINALLY bought a house back in dec right before christmas. my initial plan of living with the in-laws for 4-6 mos max was out the window and the journey of finding our house was becoming less fun and more annoying. the house that we ended up buying is 100% an investment property. our plan is to own the home for a year (simply because we have to based on it being a gov't owned foreclosure when we bought it) and then flip it.

we are currently in the midst of a huge renovation on this presh lil house and hope to move in in 2 weeks!!! i'll def be posting some pics of the progress and of course befores and afters, but today, i'm stuck in a decorating rut and feel like perusing some my pinterest for ideas. the house is only 1100 sq ft, so there isn't a lot of space to decorate, but my motto is that everything has to be functional. and, if i have anything to say about it, it will! :)

so, here we go...

our couches are a very similar color, we installed dark wood floors like these and the walls will also be gray (not quite this dark, though).

this is EXACTLY what i'm feelin for the front door. robin egg blue door, ORB fixtures. love love love!

once we move in & get settled, we will be purchasing our first ever bedroom set. i. can't. wait!!!! we already picked out a fab cream/tan tufted headboard w nailhead trimming. it's gorgeous. we will have greige walls in the master bedroom and haven't quite figured out what kind of linens. we currently have this duvet from west elm and i do still like it, so we may change out bedding further down the road.

isn't pinterest seriously great? i love that over the past couple years, i have dumped all sorts of ideas onto my boards, and now i get to put some of that inspiration to use! love love love!
